Seagull – Brand Story
Seagull Camera is one of China's most iconic homegrown camera brands. Originally launched under the name "Shanghai," the brand officially adopted the name "Seagull" in 1968 as its products entered international export markets. Manufactured by the former Shanghai Camera Factory, Seagull produced a series of legendary cameras that became milestones in the history of Chinese photography - including the 58-I in the 1950s, the classic Seagull 4 twin-lens reflex series in the 1960s, the Dongfeng and Hongqi cameras of the 1970s, and the hugely popular Seagull DF SLR cameras of the 1980s. Many of these models remain highly sought after by collectors today. In 2004, Seagull ceased production of complete camera systems after manufacturing more than 20 million cameras over its decades-long history. In January 2011, Shanghai Seagull Digital Camera Co., Ltd. was officially established as a new high-tech imaging enterprise, built upon the legacy, R&D expertise, manufacturing capabilities, and brand heritage of the historic Shanghai Camera Factory, which dated back more than sixty years.
In 2014, the company introduced the Seagull CK10 - the brand's first self-developed compact digital long-zoom camera, featuring a 25mm-600mm equivalent focal range. Two years later, Seagull launched the retro-inspired CM9 digital camera, designed with the iconic appearance of a classic twin-lens reflex camera.
Now, Seagull returns once again with its first large-aperture manual-focus lens since the brand's revival - a new chapter in the legacy of Chinese optical craftsmanship.
Today, Seagull continues to develop professional aerial imaging cameras for both APS-C and full-frame systems, alongside a growing lineup of lenses and intelligent portrait imaging devices, carrying forward its long-standing pursuit of imaging innovation.
